Read a couple of great books on holiday in the South of France. 'Kill Your Friends,' by John Niven was the best book about the music industry I've ever read. Totally irreverent and painfully funny. I enjoyed Louise Wener of Sleeper's book 'Different for Girls,' very entertaining & well written, forgotten how big they were. Also Peter Hook's book about The Hacienda, How Not to Run A Club was an absorbing read. Still hoping to get my own book out there in some form soon. Will post a few excerpts. Let me know what you think.
Whilst over there was keeping in touch with latest b-movie stuff. The three new songs we recorded last November are now being mixed by Paul Gomersall, which is quite a real honour as the guy has produced, engineered and mixed some of the biggest names in the industry (Blur, George Michael, Eric Clapton to name but a few) Can't wait to hear the final mixes - should be soon. We'll get them up on the website.
Looking forward to our first ever show in Germany on September 18th in Plauen.

. We were due to fly out tomorrow morning to play two shows in Spain. Unfortunately due to the volcanic ash cloud our flights have been cancelled and we are unable to get to Barcelona. We have reluctantly had to cancel both shows. This is a massive disappointment for us. Sorry to everyone who bought tickets. We hope to reschedule in the near future

Celebrated (probably not the right word) my 49th birthday with a trip to Jamie's Italian in Cambridge. Good food, service and ambience. Wine not so clever. As you know I'm a bit of a wine buff. Ordered a seven year old Barbera d'Asti from the list. Tasted cooked and porty. Sent it back. To their credit they exchanged it without a bat of an eyelid. My advice to everyone is don't be a stoical Brit - complain! The wine is by far the most hyper inflated item on your bill. Smell it first. If it smells off, like damp cardboard, musty cellars, mouldy etc send it back. A bad wine can ruin the evening.
Spent a few days in Avellino in Italy recently sampling the wines of the region. Lots of fresh, minerally whites made from local varieties like Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino and Falanghina and big, tannic reds from the Aglianico grape. Would recommend checking out the wines of this region (Irpinia) Not cheap but far more interesting than Pinot Grigio. The food was amazing too, apart from the truffles which tasted like lino to me.

If there's anyone out there with a spare hour or two a week who fancies getting involved with the site, let me know?

Rehearsed today for upcoming Spanish shows. Room was cold and no coffee but great to see the guys again and play the songs, especially the new ones. We're all looking forward to the two shows in Barcelona and Madrid. We last played there 25 years ago. It was a different line up by then and turned out to be the last shows B-Movie ever played. The last time the original line up played there was December 1981. So we can't wait to get back out there again. We recorded three new songs, 'The Girl with lonely eyes', 'Fugitives' and 'What Am I Doing Here?' in Nottingham and London. The plan is to mix them in Australia and then make them available as a limited edition single, available at gigs or via this web-site. I'll keep you posted.

Hello and welcome to my blog,
I'll try and keep you up to date with what's happening in the world of B-Movie. Feel free to leave any comments. We're currently rehearsing for the shows in November. As its thirty years since the band started we've gone right back to the start. Playing our first ever single again The Soldier Stood Alone again is really fun. Looking forward to the Radio Nottingham acoustic session on October 28th. My book 'Steve's Grenache' is almost finished. It's about my attempts to make my own wine but there's loads of B-Movie anecdotes in there. I'll post some excerpts soon. |
